When people think of search and rescue they often think of searching for the lost little girl or searching through tornado debri. These are definitely important aspects of SAR, but there are many more as well. Trained resources have the ability to search a variety of terrain (in East TN we have a lot of varied terrain!) via live find area search K-9 teams or tracking / trailing K-9 teams. They can also search land areas or bodies of water (still or swift) from the shoreline or a boat for drowning victims. This takes an extensive amount of training for both handler and their canine partner.
